Rattle Can Hood
by MARK HARLACH

I wanted a Z34 louvered hood for my car; however I could never find one that wasn't smashed up in the junk yard. Since no Z34 Lumina's came in my car's color (Dark Garnet Red Metalic) I bought a cheap base Lumina hood, cut some holes in it and dropped the Z34 louvers in. I then didn't want to pay to have some one paint the thing and I didn't have the equipment, so I bought two cans of gray primer, three cans of color and three cans of clear. All cans were aerosol and I never painted any car parts before ever. Got a book from the library on how to paint and went to work. The clear worked so well that I was able to wet sand with 2000 grit and polish to a perfect shine. I also painted the plastic grille with the arisol cans as well. Paint holds up strong even in Buffalo Winters. Fenders are original 18 year old paint at the time. Whole project cost less than $100.
