We knew going in that we would need to spend some considerable time cleaning, especially since we wanted to paint the engine without taking it out. When we got under the hood and tore into the engine bay, we realized we had to clean up 30 years worth of grease in order to get it all ready for paint. This is a good place to introduce the golden rule of any paint project: PREP is key! We know the prep is the worst part of any project has got to be the prep... but itês a necessary buzzkill.
